Join us at 1818 Farms for this hands-on workshop where you will enjoy learning the basics of how to construct a closed glass terrarium using our favorite planting techniques. Terrariums contain live ferns and tropical plants that create a unique, indoor, landscape garden. They require very little watering and maintenance. A terrarium adds a touch of elegance to any living space. When properly taken care of, a terrarium can live for years.
During the workshop participants will learn the history of terrariums, planting steps and basic care. You will also learn which plants to use in open versus closed containers. Our favorite wooden terrarium tools are provided to help prepare your apothecary jar for the perfect placement of pixie tropical plants into the terrarium. Once construction is complete participants will select a miniature farm-or fairy- inspired figurine to add your personal touch.
Each workshop participant will receive the following items:
• Glass apothecary jar with lid – 9 ½ “
• Activated charcoal
• River rocks
• Sphagnum moss
• Appropriate potting soil
• Three closed terrarium appropriate plants
• Four piece terrarium tool set for planting
• Terrarium Figurine
